Success Story
Building a Launch-Ready Rare Disease Sales Team
Background
To support the commercial launch of its first rare disease therapy, a biotechnology company partnered with Mix Talent to build and scale a national field organization. The therapy targeted a rare genetic disorder, marking a critical milestone for the company’s commercial evolution.
The client needed support with:
Recruiting seven Regional Sales Directors (RSDs) and 56 Rare Disease Account Specialists (RDASs) to drive national sales coverage.
Hiring six Patient Education Managers (PEMs) to enhance patient engagement, and filling multiple specialized corporate roles.
Approach
Mix deployed an integrated project team, blending recruitment capacity with strategic oversight, to meet the client’s accelerated timeline:
Embedded a cross-functional team
Including a Project Manager, TA Optimization Lead, Assessment Lead, and five recruiters – one of whom served as a dedicated lead recruiter for RSD, RDAS, and PEM roles.
Defined candidate profiles
Aligned with rare disease experience, market access understanding, and therapeutic complexity.
Designed and led two hiring events
One for RSDs and one for the broader field team (RDAS + PEMs) to accelerate decision-making and cohesion among hiring leaders.
Maintained consistent communication with client stakeholders
From HR to executive leadership, ensuring real-time updates, efficient offer management, and streamlined onboarding.
Results
Mix successfully placed a total of 72 commercial and corporate hires, including:
7 Regional Sales Directors | 56 Rare Disease Account Specialists | 6 Patient Education Managers | 1 Associate Director of Commercial Analytics & Operations | 2 Contract Marketing roles
“Mix sets themselves apart because of their sense of urgency, timely communication, organization, and proactive approach.”
